*Unlike the Customer Retention report, this report calculates retention by each subsequent order the customer has made.*&#x20;

## Definitions <a href="#definitions" id="definitions"></a>

<table><thead><tr><th width="183">Metric/Dimension</th><th>Definition</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Nth Order Retention</strong></td><td><p>The number of customers that made an nth (e.g. 7th) order divided by the number of customers in the cohort. </p><p></p><p>Unlike Customer Retention, where the retention is measured is measured over time and customers can skip intervals since first purchase, customers at one order number had to have also been in all prior order numbers. For instance, a customer that has made a 4th order will show up as being retained within the 2nd and 3rd order as well.</p></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Cohort Interval</strong></td><td>This is a control available in the <em>Filters</em> menu with the possible options of <em>Quarter, Month</em>, <em>Week</em>, and <em>Day</em>. Each option groups first-time customers together into cohorts based on the interval selected. For instance, a customer that makes their first purchase on January 15th, 2024 is cohorted into Q1 2024 (<em>quarter</em>), Jan-24 (<em>month</em>), (<em>week of</em>) Jan 14, 2024, and Jan 15, 2024 (<em>day</em>).</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Max Days Since First Purchase</strong></td><td><strong>Important filter to use.</strong> Since a returning order can occur at any time, this filter controls for the length of time that each <strong>Cohort Interval</strong> has had to make <em>x</em> number of orders.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>First Segment</strong></td><td>The first segment (e.g. Subscription) that the customer purchased.</td></tr></tbody></table>
